TOPSS induction standards recommend that Moving & Handling Training be done on induction, within 6 weeks of commencement of employment and that it take place over 1 day. Therefore these courses are aimed at new staff and those who have not had training for some time.

Manual Handling of People - Half Day Course
It is widely recommended that people handlers receive update training every 12 months (HSE 2004, Chartered society of Physiotherapists, National Back Exchange).
Half-day courses are aimed at staff that have previously received training.
These courses are updates. The manager of the organisation must be satisfied that previous training undertaken by the employee was adequate and that they are working to acceptable standards.
